The leader of Redbridge Council is visiting an independent Woodford Green bookshop on Saturday to discuss calls for free parking outside shops.

Tan Dhillon, manager of The Village Bookshop in High Road, is campaigning to allow 30 minutes free parking outside the shops to encourage customers.

He said: “Most customers now go to out of town shopping centres or supermarkets because they offer free parking and ease of access. I am asking Cllr Keith Prince to lead the way and other councils across the UK can follow Redbridge’s lead and save the great British high street from extinction.”

Chingford and Woodford Green MP Iain Duncan Smith said he supported the campaign after visiting the bookshop.
