West Essex Ramblers

The walking group is due to get people out of their homes and into the great outdoors on a walk in Woodford Green.

The group, which arrange a variety of regular walks, will be meeting at the Sir James Hawkey Hall in Broomhill Road, Woodford Green, before setting out to explore the local forest and River Roding.

The five mile walk is due to take place on September 20 at 10.30am, with the Ramblers stopping off at a cafe for tea and cake.

Ilford Catholic Club

People will be dancing the night away after the club announced it is due to host a day of music and food all in aid of a cancer charity.

The Ilford Catholic Club, which is based at The Guildhall in High Road, Ilford, will be hosting Stomp Out Cancer with DJs Ska n Mash - who are putting the event together - along with a range of bands and musicians to suit multiple musical tastes.

Dub and Ska band The Talks will be headlining the event, which will run from noon on Saturday until 2am the following morning, for charity Lennox Children’s Cancer Fund.

Organiser Pete Lacey, 51, of Hornchurch, said: “We’re all affected by cancer so it’s a very good cause. Even people in my family have been affected by it.”

Entry is £5, with proceeds going to the charity.

Redbridge 18-Plus

The social club met up with 18-Plus groups from around the country and went on a camping weekend for their summer break.

The group, which meets at 8.30pm on Fridays at Central Library in Clements Road, Ilford, packed their bags and camping gear before setting off for King’s Lynn, Norfolk.

Group members went on a treasure hunt, ate pizza and sang their hearts out at the karaoke.

Redbridge organiser Kerry Mann said: “It was a great weekend away, with a good party atmosphere and I particularly enjoyed the disco we put on.”

Barkingside 21

The group is set to sip coffee and quiz the CEO of the Redbridge Council Voluntary Service.

The CVS CEO Ross Diamond will be giving a talk to Barkingside 21 members on the challenges facing the voluntary sector before taking questions from group members.

The coffee morning is due to take place on September 23 from 9.45am till 11.45pm in the Hainault Room at Fullwell Cross Library on High Street, Barkingside.

There will be free fairtrade tea and biscuits at the free community group event.
