Voluntary groups will receive £600,000 in grants from Redbridge Council.

Organisations including Age UK and Redbridge Disability Consortium are among the applications recommended to receive a share of £590,879 for 2015/16.

A total of 24 organisations or projects will be awarded funding under the council’s corporate grants programme, in a bid to promote and develop such groups so they can better support local residents.

Groups are granted funds provided they meet the council’s specific criteria such as improving care and health, increasing community participation, or giving people the key skills to improve their futures.

Cllr Dev Sharma, cabinet member for adult care and older people said: “We have a very active and strong voluntary and community sector in Redbridge. These grants support and recognise the benefits these groups can bring to residents.”
