Businesses have been warned to plan ahead as traffic caused by the Olympic games may disrupt deliveries, according to a representative from Transport for London (TfL).

At a town forum event held at Cineworld, Clements Road, Ilford yesterday, nearby business owners were invited to address concerns about issues that may affect their business.

TfL’s head of games local engagement Guy Conway pulled no punches in stating how busy roads in Ilford will be this summer, but he believes forward planning is key in reducing disruption.

He said: “Two thirds of London’s roads will be unaffected by the Games, but one third will be very affected.

“If you run a business in Ilford but have customers across London in places like Westminster, which will be very busy, then you need to plan ahead.

“Follow the chain of delivery all the way down and see how flexible companies can be. If it benefits you, chances are it will benefit them to alter times and dates.”

Issues surrounding Olympic Route Networks (ORN) and congestion on major roads were also addressed by Mr Conway.

He informed residents Redbridge Roundabout, Redbridge will be a hotspot for congestion, with two exits designated as ORNs and a third on to Redbridge Lane East closed from noon to midnight when required by Olympic athletes and staff.

Eastern Avenue towards Wanstead and the A406 towards South Woodford will be used as Olympic routes stemming from the roundabout, though Mr Conway was quick to dispel rumours about access for commuters.

He said: “ORNs are compulsory to any Olympics and have been since Atlanta in 1996.

“But let me do some myth busting for you. The ORN is open to all traffic and it’s only the Games lanes, that will need to be on dual carriageways, that will be restricted.”
