The quality of police custody in Redbridge has been described as “disappointing” by the chief inspector of prisons.
In particular the health care provisions were identified as needing urgent attention.
The discoveries came after an inspection of the custody suite in High Road, Ilford and in High Street, Barkingside.
Nick Hardwick, chief inspector of prisons and Dru Sharpling, Her Majesty’s inspector of constabulary, said: “Overall, custody provision in Redbridge was disappointing. We expect an action plan to be provided in due course.”
Also highlighted were detainees not being told how to make a complaint and the state of medical rooms being poor.
