In this week’s Q&A we spoke to Abida Iqbal MBE, chairwoman and founder of Redbridge Disabled Women’s Welfare Association.

What’s your connection with the borough?

I have worked in Redbridge for 28 years, I have run a disabled women’s organisation for the last 24 years for socially isolated, mentally and physically disabled women in the community.

What’s the best thing about working or living in the borough?

We have an array of different cultures that we can learn a lot from. We also have easy commute to quite a few areas. Now Crossrail will make it even easier.

What one thing would you change?

I would make housing accessible for the homeless.

Use three words to describe the area?

Lively, caring, up-and-coming.

Who is the most inspiring person you have ever met?

The Queen. I have met her three times.

What new law would you introduce if you were the prime minister?

Love, peace and unity within all the people.
