A team of psychiatrists who provide intensive care for mental health patients at Goodmayes Hospital have been shortlisted for a prestigious national award.

The group from Titian ward, who work at the Sunflowers Court facility, in Barley Lane, are up for the team of the year award from the Royal College of Psychiatrists. The awards recognise health workers who are making a real difference to the lives of patients, families and carers.

Dr Russell Razzaque, consultant psychiatrist for Titian ward, said: “Despite the normal pressures faced by a psychiatric intensive care unit, we go to great lengths to take a holistic, multidisciplinary and compassionate approach to patient care, and we try our best to end what is often a longstanding cycle of illness and hospitalisation for everyone who comes to us.”

Dr Steve Feast, executive medical director of the North East London NHS Foundation Trust (NELFT), congratulated the team.

He said: “The work the Titian ward team do in helping mental health service users with their recoveries is outstanding, and being shortlisted for this prestigious award confirms that.”
