After the Recorder asked readers where the worst potholes in Redbridge were, Gurpal Flore, 27, pointed to his road, Middlefield Gardens in Gants Hill.

Mr Flore said there are around four holes which are seven inches deep and up to two-and-a-half feet wide and he wants Redbridge Council to sort them out.

He said there have been potholes in the road for the last 25 years and a wheel on his car was damaged by one.

But a council spokesman said the section of the road is not adopted, which means “the council does not have responsibility for its maintenance.”

He added the road would have to be brought up to a good condition “in accordance with council standards so that it is suitable and safe for the level of traffic and pedestrians that would use them” for it to be adopted.

Mr Flore said: “The public uses it anyway.

“It’s off a main road. It’s got public lighting.

“We’ve got disabled people with wheelchairs that live on that road.

“If they hit it [a pothole] they’d go off their buggies.”
