Leyton Orient’s top of the table clash with Peterborough United will be just like any other game, according to manager Russell Slade.

The O’s have a three lead point over two teams in the League One table - one of which is the Posh, who were one of the pre-season favourites for promotion.

Slade said: “When you’re top of the league so every game is a big game. You’re there to be shot at.

“We’re expecting a tough game against Peterborough. They’ve got a good manager and their squad is championship material.”

Posh are one of the big spenders in League One, having smashed their transfer record to sign eight-goal striker Britt Asombolonga in the summer.

But Orient manager Russell Slade has not spent a penny on players since taking over at Brisbane Road in April 2010.

Is there a secret behind his success on a shoestring, which has included two seventh place finishes in League One and the storming start to this campaign? There isn’t according to Slade.

“We’ve got the right characters and the right type of players in the squad.

“The continuity is good and everybody is hitting form. Everyone talks about the boys up front Kevin Lisbie and David Mooney getting all the goals but we’ve got players performing to really high levels throughout the team.

“We’ve got a small squad but big doesn’t always mean better because we’re a very close knit group.

“I just hope we can sustain it over the season when injuries and suspensions start coming thick and fast but if we need reinforcements I’m sure we can call on (chairman) Barry Hearn.”

Slade confirmed that Frenchman Mathieu Baudry is definitely out of the clash with Peterborough with a knee injury which sidelined him for the Rotherham game, but other players with niggles, such as fellow defender Elliott Omozusi, should be fit to start.

The former Yeovil boss was happy with his players in defeat at Coventry City the week before last, but he was delighted with how they bounced back against Rotherham United on Saturday to return to winning ways.

He said: “We showed great character to come back against Rotherham.

“I thought we played quite well against Coventry. We’ve played them three times this season and they’re the best team we’ve come up against, but if we score the penalty at 1-0 down, it could have been a very different story.”
