Pooches to be pampered at Clayhall groomers’ Christmas grotto

Life size reindeers, bags of fake snow with Father Christmas sitting slap bang in the middle – a grotto fit for your excited little ones?
Not this time, or at least not in the way you thought – Paw-fect dog groomers, Longwood Gardens, Clayhall, will be opening a Christmas grotto for dogs to raise money for charity.
All canines great and small will have the opportunity to meet Father Christmas, have a photo and receive a festive present.
Owner and qualified groomer Stacy Ismael said: “We have a good rapport with our customers – they are like family – so we thought it would be nice to give them a fun day and raise money for charity at the same time.
“A member of staff lost her aunt to motor neurone disease so there was no question who we would be raising for this year and anyone with a dog is welcome to come down.”
The salon has been running dog grottos since it first opened in 2011 and more than 40 pets attended the event last year, raising £900.
From chihuahuas to golden retrievers, it was a noisy affair, but the pooches were well behaved, according to Stacy.
“We have decided to really go to town this year,” she added.
“We have winter backdrops, a sleigh for the dogs to sit on and balls and tug ropes as presents.
“The dogs will be treated to a festive bow tie in red, gold or green and some of them will jingle as well.”
While your pet munches on home-made dog biscuits, you can eat dog-themed cakes, guess how many sweets are in a jar, or take part in the raffle.
A full groom, personalised dog blankets, jewellery, wine and chocolates will be available to win.
Stacy worked as a legal sectary for 17 years before she opened up the groomers.
“I didn’t like to see dogs in cages before and after a groom,” she said.
“I think it’s better to put them in a more relaxed situation.
“I absolutely love my job and enjoy working locally and being part of the community.”
The grotto will be open on December 12, noon to 4pm.
