Woodford Green MP Iain Duncan Smith – who sensationally resigned from the government last week – has said he will continue to put his constituency “at the centre of everything”.
Mr Duncan Smith, who had been work and pensions secretary since 2010, quit the cabinet on Friday citing pressure to make disability cuts.
He told the Recorder today: “It is business as usual, I am still the Member of Parliament for Chingford and Woodford Green and will continue to do my best for local people.
“The work of government still goes on and I will now play my part from the backbenches.
“I have always placed the constituency at the centre of everything I have done and I will continue to do so.”
The former Tory leader, who has been MP for Woodford Green since 1992, thanked those who have contacted him offering support.
