Five people managed to flee from a house fire this morning in Wanstead.

Four fire engines and 20 firefighters and officers managed to tackle the blaze in Overton Drive after being called at 6.14am.

A spokesman for the London Fire Brigade said the property’s roof was destroyed and the fire was under control at 8.52am.

The five people escaped before the brigade arrived and the cause of the incident is under investigation.
