COUNCIL: Plans for pupil referral unit in Seven Kings halted due to ‘lack of consultation’
PUBLISHED: 12:03 20 July 2013
Plans for a pupil referral unit in Seven Kings have been halted after a number of councillors suggested there had been a “lack of consultation”.
The former lorry park in Seven Kings was earmarked as a permanent location for the unit which would house Key Stage 3 pupils excluded from mainstream schools.
However the matter has been referred back to cabinet to consider the implications for a lack of regeneration in the area which would result from the decision.
The lorry park, which ceased to operate in 1990, sits next to a car park and had been identified as a development site.
Cllr Bob Littlewood, who made the amendment seconded by Cllr Elaine Norman, said: “This idea came completely out of the blue and the community were not included. This is a prime redevelopment site in Seven Kings.
“There has been a lack of consultation on this.”
