Redbridge police and the UK Border Agency (UKBA) are questioning workers at Major’s Builders Merchants.
The police stormed the High Road, Ilford shop at about 2pm today, and have been asking workers at the shop’s warehouse, at the back of the store, to show their identity papers.
One man standing outside the store who claimed to know the owner, said: “They have been in the high street since about 1996. I can’t imagine they are doing anything wrong.”
On the scene, the UKBA declined to comment. More to follow.
