Five men have been arrested today on suspicion of selling “spice” after raids in Dagenham, Ilford, Westminster and Lambeth.
A quantity of the synthetic drug, ready for supply, was found in Ilford.
The sting was part of Operation Spatha, an attempt to stem an epidemic of spice use amongst homeless people in Charing Cross.
Westminster’s borough commander Peter Ayling said: “Spice has a devastating impact on users who are often very vulnerable and it has increased the demand on public services.
“Those dealing spice often don’t know what they are selling and have little regard for the terrible effect this substance has on people and the community.
“Operation Spatha has been a great success and we will continue to make the lives of thoughtless and opportunistic dealers very uncomfortable.”
The five men, aged 38, 30, 32, 48 and 45, have been arrested on suspicion of supplying, and being concerned in the supply of, Class B drugs.
