Two police officers were removed from a police car following a crash, firefighters have confirmed.

Pedestrians watched on as the roof of a police car was cut open on Eastern Avenue, Gants Hill, following a collision with a van at the nearby roundabout.

The officers were taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service and later discharged.

Two fire engines and a fire rescue unit from Ilford, Hainault and East Ham fire stations were at the scene after London Fire Brigade was alerted at 5.32pm yesterday, following the incident.

A police spokeswoman confirmed that the driver of the other vehicle was reported for driving offences.
