Police appeal after man racially abused then attacked with baseball bat in Ilford

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was attacked with a baseball bat in a racially aggravated assault.

A 35-year-old man was crossing Brisbane Road at the Ley Street junction in Ilford at about 6pm on Friday.

A white transit van with two passengers drove at speed towards the man almost knocking him to the floor. The driver and victim had an argument during which racially abusive language was used towards the 35-year-old. The two people than got out of the van and attacked him with a baseball bat. The victim was treated in hospital for minor cuts and bruises.

The driver is described as an Asian male between 30 and 35-years-old and was wearing a sleeveless top.
