Police are appealing for information after a body was found in a forest.

Officers were alerted by a member of public at 7.05pm on Wednesday to reports of the body, which was buried and wrapped in plastic, in Epping Forest, Snaresbrook.

It was found close to Hollow Ponds along Whipps Cross Road.

The body was removed from the area yesterday and a postmortem examination is due to take place today at Waltham Forest Mortuary.

Detectives are now appealing for anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious in the Hollow Ponds area over the last few weeks to come forward.

Det Insp Tim Cuthbert, of the Homicide and Major Crime Command, said: “Hollow Ponds is a busy and popular local beauty spot, with a café and a boating lake.

“It is also surrounded by a number of busy roads, including Whipps Cross Road.

“We would like to speak to anyone who may have been in the area this summer, and may have witnessed any unusual or suspicious activity to come and speak to us.”

The death is being treated as unexplained at this stage.
