Developers have lodged plans to turn flats above a kebab shop into a 40-room hotel.
The proposals, which are being considered by Redbridge Council, could see the site at the junction of High Road and Goodmayes Road, Goodmayes, extended to the rear with two additional storeys, if they are approved.
Developers Countrywide Developments is also proposing a change of use to hotel and hopes to retain 15 residential units and commercial units on the ground floor.
One commercial unit will be lost to make way for a hotel foyer and the 15 flats will comprise of seven one-bed and eight two-bed homes, according to the proposals.
The planning document reads: “The change of use to a 40-bed hotel is considered acceptable in principle given the sustainable location within the Goodmayes Local Centre.”
It continues: “The proposed development will create a high quality development, a new hotel to support the Local Centre and create employment and retain residential accommodation.
“The proposal is considered acceptable with regards to the relevant policies of the Development Plan and should therefore be granted planning permission.”
