Young musicians refined their skills after taking part in a “piano boot camp”.

The group of six were given the rare opportunity to take part in the six-week pilot music course at Ilford Central Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Coventry Road, Ilford.

The youngsters on their summer break were trained in the fundamentals of playing the piano for worship services, and how to approach learning and practising songs they knew, but never played before.

Under the supervision of the church’s music director and founder of tuition business Skool of Keys, Roger Baptiste, the young virtuosos explored the techniques and concepts used by experienced musicians.

“The results have been encouraging,” said Roger.

“Within three weeks one student has already stepped up to play a song for the main worship service, at a level not previously attained.”

Roger and the Skool of Keys is looking forward to planning another music project for the young churchgoers later this year.
