Children at a gurdwara are perfecting their Punjabi and strumming their sitars in preparation of a variety show next week.

Rehearsals have been going on for the past five months at the Guru Nanak Satsang Karamsar gurdwara in High Road, Ilford, to get everyone ready in time.

The variety show, which includes music, plays and dancing, will be held at the Kenneth More Theatre, Oakfield Road, Ilford, on Tuesday, at 6.30pm.

Satvinder Singh, co-ordinator of the show, said: “We are rehearsing to make sure we are ready. The children are looking forward to it.”

Mr Singh added: “The show is in Punjabi as for all the children it’s their second language so we were looking for an innovative way for them to learn it which is why the teacher suggested a play.”

Ticket are £10 for adults, £5 concessions and are available from the theatre box office on 020 8553 4466.
