A leading member of the East London Three Faiths Forum visited Paris this week with several imams to boost solidarity following terror attacks in the city last month.
Muslim Khola Hasan, an executive member of the forum, met with Jewish representatives of CRIF, the Jewish umbrella group, during the trip.
Four people at the Jewish grocery were among the attackers’ 17 victims, while 12 others died in the newsroom at Charlie Hebdo’s offices.
This week, Rabbi David Hulbert, of Bet Tikvah Synagogue, Perryman Farms Road, Newbury Park, said the number of requests from schools to visit his synagogue had considerably increased since the atrocities in Paris.
He said: “The phone has gone off [the hook] in recent weeks.
“In Newham, for instance, there are a no synagogues in that borough, so to learn about our faith they come to me.
“They are making the effort.”
The rabbi commended those schools which had got in touch.
“They are doing the right thing,” he said.
