An overseas organisation visited the borough for a clean-up day.
More than 30 members of Dera Sacha Sauda, a social welfare and spiritual group based in India, took to the Loxford Water stream, near Buttsbury Road, Ilford, at the weekend to clear the site of rubbish.
They also removed weeds and cut back overgrown areas.
The group were joined by Cllr Filly Maravala (Loxford, Redbridge Independent Group), who said the organisation collected so much rubbish it took four lorry loads to remove them.
He added: “Residents were absolutely thrilled about the wonderful job Dera Sacha Sauda had done. I too would like to thank each and every one of them from the bottom of my heart for all their hard work.”
