After an atrocious start to February, Leyton Orient’s promotion push is back on track.

And manager Russell Slade will hope they can make it three home wins on the bounce against relegation-threatened Colchester United tomorrow.

The O’s returned to the top of League One after last weekend’s 2-0 win over Swindon, although they have played two games more than both Wolves and Brentford.

Slade said: “We’ve played a couple more games than Wolves so it might be a short stay at the top so we’ve just got to concentrate on each and every performance.

“There are now 39 points to play for and we’ve got to fight for every single one.”

The manager added that his players will probably benefit from a rare midweek off.

“It’s probably a good thing we’ve had the week off,” Slade added.

“The intensity is a big part of our game and it’s difficult to maintain when you’re constantly playing Saturday and then again on Tuesday.”

The O’s won the reverse fixture 2-1 in September in a game characterised by players scoring against their former clubs.

Ex-Colchester strikers David Mooney and Kevin Lisbie scored the goals for Slade’s men, with a strike from former Orient forward Jabo Ibhere sandwiched between them.

Midfielder Lloyd James, who also spent two years at Colchester, urged the team to continue picking up points and not to waste their excellent season up to this point.

He said: “We need to make sure we take as many points as possible and take it from there.

“It doesn’t get any easier and we’ve got to stay grounded.

“It’s been a brilliant season so far and we’ve got a great bunch of lads, it’s brilliant to have competition for places.”

Jamie Jones is the only absentee as he continues to recover from a back injury, although the goalkeeper has started running and gym work.

Other than that Slade has a fully fit squad to choose from.
