More than 50 oranges complete with red ribbons, candles and sweets were given out at a special Christingle service.

Holy Trinity Church, Hermon Hill, South Woodford held the service on Sunday.

Fr Robert Hampson said: “It’s a nice and friendly service, its religious connotation is relatively low though.”

During the service oranges are given out which have a red ribbon tied around them and a candle stuck in the top.

Four cocktails sticks, each with sweets on the end of them, are placed around the orange.

Fr Hampson said: “The candle in the top represents the light of Christ, the four sticks the corners of the earth, sweets the fruits of the earth and the ribbon the blood of Christ.”

The oranges were made by Brownie and Rainbow groups.
