Archant

A group from Goodmayes dressed up as wenches, captains and sailors to take part in an annual swashbuckling celebration.

Redbridge 18 plus, an adult group who meet up to socialise, hit the high seas and headed to Hastings to join thousands of other visitors for Pirate Day.

The event is held as part of the town’s heritage celebrations and featured performances and entertainment including cannon demonstrations, swashbuckling stunt action and steel pirate bands.

The group also participated in pirate themed games along the seafront and walked through the “old town” to look at the buildings.

Elliot Barclay, Redbridge 18 Plus member said: “It was brilliant to be part of Hastings Pirate Day.

“It’s a nice place to go and we all enjoyed dressing up– there was a great atmosphere with everyone taking part.”

The day trip was just one of the many events put on by Redbridge 18 Plus who meet most Fridays at Goodmayes Community Centre, Green Lane, Goodmayes at 8.30pm.
