It’s up there with the best goal he’s ever scored - that’s the opinion of Orient midfielder Dean Cox on his wonder goal which rescued a point against Sheffield United.

His volley nine miuntes from time ensured the O’s went back to the top of League One on goal difference, something Cox is pleased about.

“It’s great to be back on top,” said Cox. “That’s where we want to be at the end of the season.

“We played really well and created a lot of chances, we probably should have won. The couple which Dave (Mooney) had, you’d normally put your mortgage on him.

“But this could be a crucial point come May.

“Maybe they’re in a false position. You can’t say just because it’s Sheffield United you’re going to get three points.”

Attentions now turn to Walsall in the FA Cup at Brisbane Road next weekend, and Cox is aware of the important financial implications of reaching the third round.

But he has his eye trained on a possible trip to Old Trafford: “I’d love to draw Manchester United away in the third round.

“I’ve never been to Old Trafford while some of the players have, so it would be great.

“But we know it’s going to be a difficult game against Walsall. They came here in the league and picked up a point, so maybe we owe them one.”

Forward Shaun Batt replaced the injured Kevin Lisbie, and impressed throughout with his pace and strength.

“It was nice to play for 90 minutes,” he said. “It’s been a while since I did.

“Hopefully now I can go from strength to strength.

“I thought we were great in the first half and the point could be priceless in the end.

“We probably should have won but that’s football. Sometimes they go in, sometimes they don’t.”
