A man has been arrested after a “large fight” broke out, outside Redbridge Central Library last night.

Police were called to Clements Road, Ilford, at 6.15pm to reports of a large group people brawling outside the library.

A Met spokeswoman told the Recorder: “Officers attended and found a 17-year-old male assaulted.”

The London Ambulance Service was called and he was treated at the scene – not taken to hospital.

A male has been arrested in connection with the incident, and is currently in custody at an east London police station.

Cllr Khayer Chowdhury, who witnessed the fight as he made his way to last night’s council meeting at Redbridge Town Hall, told the Recorder the swift police response sends a message.

He said: “They were there within a minute and a half, and credit must go to them for being so quick.

“We will not tolerate this behaviour in our libraries, and if you try to start it we will come after you and we will get you.

“If you want to fight, go and do it somewhere else, where there aren’t people working hard trying to study.”
