Olympic fever spread through Redbridge Primary School on Monday when Olympic champion Christine Ohurugou visited children.

Stratford-born Christine won gold in the 400m at the Bejing Olympics and silver at London 2012.

She was visiting pupils in years five and six with her new children’s books following young athletes in training.

Camp Gold: Running Stars and Camp Gold: Going for Gold tell the story of a young girl with a talent for running trying to make it to the top.

Christine read parts of the books to excited children at the school in College Gardens, Ilford, before telling them about life as an Olympian and even let some hold her silver medal.

Headteacher Carel Buxton said it was an “amazing” day for the school.

She added: “She’s such a charming woman and she communicated really well with the children.

“A lot of them are into their sport and some went to the Olympics so they knew who she was.

“They asked her lots of questions about how she became an Olympian, injuries and what it feels like to get the gold.”
