An organisation which works to help keep the borough’s streets safe has become fully independent.
The Redbridge Neighbourhood Watch Trust has effectively been controlled by residents since March 2013, but only now has responsibility been fully handed over by the police.
Trust joint chairman Mark Glazer said: “We have brought Redbridge Neighbourhood Watch kicking and screaming into the 21st century and we are ready to take on whatever the world throws our way. We need to take back the streets and we can only do this with your help.”
The trust, one of six operating independently in London boroughs, is run by an executive committee and ward co-ordinators.
Its ambitions for the next year include having a minimum of 20 watches in every ward to “drive down burglary by helping the public protect their properties better” and encouraging “better neighbourliness”.
Committee member Terry Marshall said: “This has been a great opportunity to reinvigorate the organisation and to engender some community spirit.”
