The group included Mr Fang Li, vice mayor of Jiujiang and Ms Quan Zhou, the principal of Jiujiang Foreign Language High School.

They were greeted by headteacher Steven Wilks, head boy Keanon McSween, deputy head boy Amrit Bhogal and head girl Taylor Mullaney-Dowener, along with some of the pupils who are visiting China in October.

Assistant headteacher Jeff Hawthorne said: “The delegation thoroughly enjoyed their tour of the school, including the maths, art and technology areas.

“We then met to discuss ways of developing further cooperation and signed a letter of intent promoting links between the two schools. This will give more opportunities for students from both schools to develop understanding of each others cultures.”

The high school originally began their link with Jiujiang, in southeast China, in 2010 when Mr Thomas Chan, then Mayor of Redbridge, organised a video conference between the two schools.
