Billions worldwide watched the uniquely British Olympics opening ceremony on Friday but one participant from Newbury Park still hasn’t had a chance to see her own moment in the starlight.
Amid the cigar-chewing 19th century industrialists and sedate games of cricket, dental nurse Marianna Dadejova, 29, of Eastern Avenue, played her part in the National Health Service portion of proceedings.
She was one of about 1,000 NHS workers who ran out in front of thousands at the Olympic Stadium in Stratford during the ceremony, devised by film director Danny Boyle.
Marianna, who works with the North East London Foundation Trust, still hasn’t watched the full broadcast though to find herself among the sea of faces.
She said: “I didn’t even look. I will probably meet up with friends and watch it.”
“The night itself, I think it was great, it’s hard to describe.”
She and other volunteers wheeled out one of a number of “trampoline” nursing beds which young children jumped up and down on.
The nurses had to dance as well, but having some experience in the past, Marianna said she wasn’t too fazed.
She is also keen to meet up with friends she made during rehearsals on July 27 each year to celebrate.
