Don and Louise Wyman, of Cranley Drive, Newbury Park, celebrated their diamond anniversary having been married on March 11, 1956.

“We met at a dance after I’d got back from the war,” said husband Don, “that’s what you did in those days, you went to dances to meet members of the opposite sex.”

The couple, who have lived in Ilford for 53 years, were married on March 11, 1956, but despite their long, happy marriage Don maintains there’s no big secret.

The 85-year-old said: “We just share everything. We share our ups and our downs, we share our worries and our joys and we’re just good friends really. There’s no big secret to staying happy.

“We’ve had our highs and our lows but we’re very happy and long may it continue.”
