Pretty presents were wrapped to perfection at St Peter’s Church ready to be shipped off to orphans in Romania.

The church, in Aldborough Road North, Newbury Park, collected more than 170 shoeboxes which will be given to charity Children in Distress to distribute.

Reverend Kate Lovesy said: “Christmas is about giving and sharing, and these shoeboxes will bring something of the spirit of Christmas to families and children in Eastern Europe who will have nothing else on Christmas Day.”

The congregation collected 30 more shoeboxes than last year which contained various gifts including toys, clothes, stationery and sweets.
