A homeowner has given the Recorder access to their house to photograph the aftermath of a blaze on New Year’s Eve.

Four fire engines and about 20 firefighters from Ilford, Stratford, Hainault and East Ham fire stations attended the house, which is under construction, on Thursday in Quebec Road.

Firefighters were called at 5.28pm to the fire, which left the detached house badly damaged.

The blaze was brought under control by 7.51pm.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Neighbour Max Reid, 76, said: “It’s not quite the fireworks display we expected on New Year’s Eve.”
