New owners aim to ‘maintain wonderful character’ of The Travellers Friend pub in Woodford Green

A Woodford Green pub threatened with closure has been bought by new owners.

The Travellers Friend, in High Road, has been taken over by businessmen Scott Randall and Andrew Zacharia, who confirmed the deal last Friday.

The future of the pub had been in doubt since the collapse of the Bramwell Pub Company and administrators Zolfo Cooper had been seeking a buyer since their appointment on October 31.

Mr Randall said: “We have always maintained that so long as the building is under our control, and we have no intention of ever selling, then it shall always remain a public house and nothing has changed.

“This building will not be a block of flats in a year’s time.”

He added: “The idea of buying this was conceived more than 10 years ago. Now we have it, it won’t take us 10 years to get right.

“There will be subtle changes, but we shall endeavour to maintain its wonderful character.”

Residents with ideas on how to improve the pub should visit the owners.
