New Goodmayes community centre ‘will open in September’

PUBLISHED: 08:55 21 June 2013

A new community centre in Goodmayes could open later this year for groups and societies of all ages to use.

Goodmayes Residents’ Association (GRASS) started renovating the disused building, in Green Lane, last year with funding from the council and Swan Housing.

Chairman Keith Stanbury hopes to have it open by the end of September.

He said: “It will be available to all community groups at a subsidised cost. We want children’s groups, day care, lunch clubs, absolutely anything.”

The Goodmayes Safer Neighbourhoods Team may use the centre as a contact point and local councillors will use it for their surgeries with residents.

Users will also be invited to join the centre’s management committee.

The completed centre will include a hall, computer suites, kitchen, toilets with disabled facilities and an office.
