New community centre in Goodmayes looks set to open next month

Work has started on a new community centre in Goodmayes which is set to open at the end of next month for groups and societies of all ages to use.

Goodmayes Residents’ Association (GRASS) started renovating the disused building, in Green Lane, last year with funding from Swan Housing, and contractors are now hard at work fitting out the new premises.

The innovative project, partly funded by the Redbridge Community Fund, is the first community centre to be opened in south Ilford for over two decades and is sited on a main bus route close to Goodmayes railway station.

The building, which is wheelchair friendly, will include a community hall, fully fitted kitchen, toilets and storage space for regular users.

GRASS is now keen to hear from any community groups who might want to use the building.
