From Cruella De Vil to Elsa, Disney characters great and small – but all fabulous – were brough to life by New City College students at a special event at its Chadwell Heath campaign last week.
On Thursday, May 3, at a packed out Box Theatre at New City College’s Chadwell Heath campus in Barley Lane, Level 3 hairdressing students put on their annual fashion show and invited all their friends and families to come and join in the celebration of their skills.
The event was also launching a new partnership with award-winning, celebrity hair stylist Lee Stafford, who now works with the college’s hairdressing team.
This year’s theme was a real crowd pleaser – Disney, Hollywood Glamour and Hollywood Avant Garde.
Dozens of talented women from a wide ranging age group were able to draw up their own special looks and hairstyles before walking a red carpet outside the theatre and finally strutting down the catl-walk in front of an extremely appreciative audience.
The well-attended show impressed the audience and displayed a range of hairstyles, which followed the themes of Disney characters, Hollywood glamour and Hollywood avant-garde glamour.
As well as providing an entertaining performance, the event raised money for the Little Princess Trust, a prestigious charity, which provides free wigs to sick children and young adults, who have lost their hair through cancer treatment or other illnesses.
Lee Stafford featured as a guest judge on the panel. He said: “Didn’t they do a fantastic job? I am excited to start working with the College and all the students. Here’s to a fantastic year ahead!”
Janet Smith, Borough Principal commented: “The students put on a fantastic show, thanks to all staff who have supported students in ensuring the success of this event tonight. We are proud to announce our partnership with Lee Stafford and our Hairdressing and Beauty Department! We are looking forward to this exciting collaboration.”
The winner of the category ‘Hollywood Avant-Garde Glamour’ was Level 3 Hairdressing student Leigh-Ann Dunne, who was over the moon for being chosen winner by her idol: “I am ecstatic about winning first place, my tutor didn’t give up on me through all of the tears and tantrums! It was worth it, I am Lee Stafford’s biggest fan!”
The college is hosting a hairdressing open day this Saturday from 10am at Urban Oasis in Balfour Road, Ilford.
