Amandaland renewed for a third series on BBC One and iPlayer

The Motherland spin-off, which also stars Philippa Dunne, will be back on BBC iPlayer and BBC One after two successful series and a record-breaking Christmas special.

The show, produced by Merman, has amassed a strong following since its debut, averaging five million viewers over 28 days for its first series, making it one of the BBC's most popular comedies since 2022.

The audience has continued to grow, with the series reaching an average of 6.6 million viewers to date.

It has also been a hit with younger audiences, attracting 800,000 viewers aged 16-34, making it the top BBC comedy for that age group in recent years.

The 2025 Christmas special of Amandaland was the most-watched comedy episode in the UK in 2025, with an audience of 7.4 million over 28 days.

It was also the number one broadcaster comedy episode for 16-34s, with 1.2 million viewers.

What is Amandaland about?

Amandaland follows the life of Amanda (Lucy Punch), the self-appointed queen of SoHa, as she deals with teenagers growing into adults and a mother, Felicity (Joanna Lumley), who refuses to accept her advancing years.

All this while she tries to build her profile as a super influencer and attain a Chiswick lifestyle on a Harlesden budget.

The second series, which launched last week, saw a spark of romance between Amanda and fellow divorcee and neighbour Mal (Samuel Anderson).

The audience also got to meet Mal's ex, the straightforward Abs (Harriet Webb), whom Amanda found difficult to connect with.

Amanda’s best friend, Anne (Philippa Dunne), remains a loyal and long-suffering companion.

Co-writer and creator Holly Walsh and co-writer Laurence Rickard expressed their joy at the show's return, saying: "We are thrilled to be heading back to SoHa for a third series of Amandaland and delighted the show has found the sort of audience that Amanda’s Instagram account could only dream of.

"We are already priming our keyboards to prompt AI into creating another batch of scripts and can’t wait to be reunited with our incredible cast and crew."

Amandaland won the best scripted comedy award at the 2026 BAFTA Television Awards.
