Cans of shaving cream and boxes of washing powder were just some of the items donated to people in need in the borough.

The items were donated by various Muslim organisations and were all collected together at the Gardens of Peace Cemetery, Elmbridge Road, Hainault.

They were then taken to the Salvation Army, Clements Road and the Redbridge Welcome Centre, Green Lane, both in Ilford. Mohamed Omer, trustee of the cemetery, said: “They are doing such a wonderful job and the Muslim community feel homelessness is a problem which affects all communities and we want to continue supporting them.”

In total about £250 of goods were donated to the centres, something which Mr Omer is keen to do again.

The donation follows the Federation of Redbridge Muslim Associations donating boxes of items to homeless charities before Christmas.
