Twelve children at Glade Primary School, Clayhall, have produced an original song to feature on Unicef’s official website.
The Key Stage 2 pupils from the Atherton Road schoolcollaborated with their music teacher Davida Robinson and her partner, Jason, to record the song for Unicef’s Rights Representing Schools Award.
The Award encourages children to understand and respect children’s rights and promote this through their school’s ethos and curriculum.
Mrs Robinson said: “We approached Unicef about writing the song.
“Once they agreed, we and the children began to brainstorm some ideas.”
Words from Unicef’s book, For Every Child, serve as the inspiration and song title of the school.
Pupils dedicated their Easter holiday break to writing the lyrics and went on to record at a studio in Woodford.
The final version of the song has since been performed by the rest of Glade Primary School.
Mrs Robinson said: “It has become our song.
“The children sing it during assemblies.”
Listeners of East London Radio can tune into an exclusive interview with three of the children at 10am on Friday and hear For Every Child.
The team and Mrs Robinson will talk with radio presenter, Ian Chambers explaining the process of making music for Unicef.
Promotion of the song does not stop there; the children will be giving an interview with Time FM, in Romford, on June 30.
Mrs Robinson also revealed the song will feature in the school’s annual concert An Evening of Song focusing on the theme of Syrian refugees.
Staff, pupils and members of community choirs will come together on June 20 and sing several songs to raise awareness of those from the war-torn country.
When asked her favourite part of making For Every Child, Mrs Robinson said: “It’s an important theme and it has been fun working with the children using their input and ideas.
“The song has been well received from children, parents and staff on an important subject.
For Every Child is available to listen to on the Glade Primary School and Unicef’s websites and SoundCloud.
