More than 3,000 trees were planted in Broadmead Playing Fields, Woodford Green, on Saturday.
Charity Trees for Cities held the community tree planting event as part of their goal to plant 7,500 trees in February and March.
They invited local residents to the fields to join in.
More than 150 people, including local groups and volunteers, assisted.
Planting will continue on various days for the next week until the site has 7,500 saplings.
Sharon Johnson, the charity’s chief executive, said: “Through tree planting, people of all ages, backgrounds and beliefs come together to improve their environment.”
Trees for Cities is working in partnership with Vision Redbridge, Redbridge Housing and the Orchard Estate Residents Association and the project is supported by The Big Tree Plant.
“The addition of new trees at Broadmead will improve the appearance of this site greatly and benefit residents of the Orchard Estate,” said Tess Pettinger, Vision’s nature conservation ranger.
