A 20-year-old man has been arrested after an allegedly stolen Mercedes crashed into a parked car and telephone pole in Redbridge.

Police were called to reports of a crash in which a car hit a telephone pole and parked car in Redbridge Lane East at around 9pm on Wednesday, July 22.

Three men fled the scene on foot before police arrived and no injuries were reported.

Around 20 minutes later, police received reports of a stolen vehicle.

Officers investigated and a 20-year-old man handed himself in at an east London police station yesterday (August 23).

He was arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking, driving with no insurance and failing to stop at the scene of a collision.

He remains in custody.

Inquiries continue.
