Christmas dinner with all the trimmings will be served up for elderly and vulnerable people tomorrow.
Redbridge Council’s Community Meals Service – also referred to as Meals on Wheels – will deliver delicious turkey meals to more than 140 homes for Christmas Day.
As well as serving the meals they will also carry out a “safe and well” check to make sure people are well to help give families and carers peace of mind.
The service delivers a wide choice of hot nutritional meals 365 days a year.
Service users have been given a menu in the run-up to Christmas so they can choose what they would like to eat, with a traditional turkey meal with all the trimmings, a pork or vegetarian option, followed by a choice of desserts – including Christmas pudding.
The Meals on Wheels drivers also provide social contact for residents who may feel isolated and lonely at this time of year.
Drivers have also been delivering Redbridge Bogus Caller Partnership 2015 calendar, providing vulnerable residents with useful safety tips.
Community Meals are also on offer at a luncheon club every weekday at two venues in the Borough in Chadwell Heath and Seven Kings.
People over 65 can come along for meals and make new friends.
