Three new river crossings in East London have been given the green light by Mayor of London Sadiq Khan.
The plans, announced today, include building a new Silvertown road tunnel, a pedestrian bridge linking Rotherhithe and Canary Wharf, and a Docklands Light Railway line from Gallions Reach to Thamesmead.
The mayor also said Transport for London (TfL) would consider extending the Overground line from the future Barking Riverside station to Abbey Wood, and a ferry from North Greenwich to the Isle of Dogs.
The riverside station is set to be complete by 2021, with work beginning next year, and is part of a regeneration that will result in 10,800 homes being created in the area alongside about 65,000 sq m of commercial, retail and community facilities.
Work electrifying the line, which links Barking and Gospel Oak, is due for completion next year and it will remain closed until February.
