A man wearing ceremonial civic jewellery is perhaps one of the last things you’d imagine seeing on a bike at Redbridge Cycling Centre.

But mayor Cllr Ashley Kissin proved he was far from the staid figure of a bygone age when he turned up for a cycle on Saturday in his mayoral chains.

Organised by Conservative Cllr Tom McLaren (Church End) and cycling club East London Velo, the event was planned to raise money for the mayor’s chosen charity, the Royal British Legion.

After the event, Mr McLaren tweeted: “Thanks to all volunteers and donors, but most of all to Mayor Ashley Kissin for being such a good sport!”
