A 28-year-old man was taken to Whipps Cross Hospital last night after being struck by a car near Charlie Brown’s Roundabout.

Ambulance crews were called to the scene of a collision between the man and a black car in Southend Road, next to the Tesco Woodford Green superstore, at 6.43pm.

Paramedics treated the man for a serious leg injury, believed to be a broken leg according to a Redbridge police spokesman.

A London Ambulance spokesman said the 28-year-old was “stabilised at the scene before being taken to Whipps Cross as a priority”.

Police closed a northbound section of Woodford Avenue after the Clayhall Avenue turning.

Northbound traffic approaching the roundabout in Southend Road was reduced to one lane leading to long tailbacks along Woodford Avenue at 7.30pm.

One motorist said she had been stuck in her car for 40 minutes.

A police spokesman said the road was fully re-opened at 7.56pm.

He added that no arrests have been made and at the moment, the police are treating it as an accident.
