Man in critical condition after attack near Ilford station

A man is fighting for his life after sustaining head injuries in the early hours of this morning.

Police are appealing for information after they were alerted to an incident in York Road, Ilford, at 2.40am.

The man, aged 21, is undergoing assessment at an east London hospital.

Officers cordoned off Ilford station for much of the day, but reopened it earlier this afternoon.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman confirmed no arrests had been made and that the investigation was ongoing.
