The London Ambulance Service (LAS) arrived within four minutes of the accident in Eastern Avenue - between Redbridge Roundabout and Green Man Roundabout - but were not able to save him.

“We sent multiple resources to the scene including ambulance crews, an incident response officer, and our hazardous area response team,” a LAS spokeswoman said.

“London’s Air Ambulance was also dispatched.

“Sadly despite extensive resuscitation efforts from medics, a man died at the scene.”

The A12 was closed for a few hours after the 8.44am accident while emergency crewed worked at the scene.

All lanes have now been reopened, but driver are warned that there are still delays while the queues clear.
